NAIDOC

NAIDOC week celebrates and recognises the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders people.

NAIDOC Week 2024 is held from Sunday the 7th July to Sunday the 14th July. It is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories.

2024 Theme: Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud

The theme for this year is “keep the fire burning! Blak, loud and proud.”

NAIDOC-Week

The theme invites all Australians to stand in solidarity, amplifying the voices that have long been silenced.

The NAIDOC committee explains what the theme means:

"Blak, Loud and Proud" encapsulates the unapologetic celebration of Indigenous identity, empowering us to stand tall in our heritage and assert our place in the modern world. This theme calls for a reclamation of narratives, an amplification of voices, and an unwavering commitment to justice and equality. It invites all Australians to listen, learn, and engage in meaningful dialogue, fostering a society where the wisdom and contributions of Indigenous peoples are fully valued and respected.

Through our collective efforts, we can forge a future where the stories, traditions, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities are cherished and celebrated, enriching the fabric of the nation with the oldest living culture in the world.

We celebrate CATSINaM: The Congress of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nurses and Midwives

Nurse and Midwife Support proudly supports and acknowledges the important work of the Congress of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nurses and Midwives (CATSINam).

The team has been fortunate to be supported by CATSINaM and have worked with their amazing team.

CATSINaM CEO Dr Ali Drummond joined our podcast last year to explain why we need to embed Cultural Safety and Cultural Humility in academia, training and education. You can check out the podcast here.

CATSINaM launched an online self-paced Murra Mullungari training program for all nurses and midwives on cultural safety. We encourage all nurses and midwives to complete the training.
