All psychiatrists in the Find a Psychiatrist Service directory are qualified medical practitioners who have undergone further specialist training to become experts in the treatment of mental illness. The directory contains only Australian psychiatrists in private practice who have requested to appear. Information in the directory is provided by psychiatrists themselves. Contact the psychiatrist for any questions about their skills, qualifications or practice. If you want to see a psychiatrist, it is recommended that you first see your GP, who is responsible for your overall medical care. Your GP will discuss your problem with you, advise whether you need to see a psychiatrist, and provide a referral if required.
