This year’s International Nurses Day (#IND2025) theme is focused on acknowledging the challenges nurses face and creating a roadmap for building a healthier, more sustainable nursing workforce. At Nurse and Midwife Support, this aligns perfectly with our mission!

Dr. Cipriano, President of the International Council of Nurses (ICN), shares:

“For the 2025 International Nurses Day theme, we are shining a spotlight on the critical need to support the health and well-being of nurses, who are essential to the functioning of healthcare systems worldwide. Nurses encounter numerous challenges—physical, mental, emotional, and ethical—and it’s vital we address these challenges in ways that support their overall health. This theme provides an opportunity to present actionable solutions that can be immediately implemented to help nurses thrive both in their work and in their personal well-being.”

We wholeheartedly agree! The health and well-being of the nursing workforce is crucial, not just for the recruitment of nurses, but for the retention of a workforce that contributes to a stronger global economy.

The ICN’s new #IND2025 report highlights practical, evidence-based solutions aimed at enhancing the health and well-being of nurses, acknowledging their vital role in strengthening health systems and boosting economies.

Events will be held around the world to celebrate #IND2025 — find an event near you!

We also eagerly anticipate the release of the 2025 State of the World Nursing report from the World Health Organization (WHO). The report will offer a comprehensive analysis of the global nursing workforce considering a rapidly evolving global landscape, more complex health challenges, and increased demands on health systems. The report will be released on 12 May 2025.

Our community of nurses is truly remarkable, and we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to each of you for your unwavering dedication every single day. Thank you for everything you do.

As we celebrate #IND2025, it’s important to remember that while this day provides an opportunity to honour nursing and highlight your achievements, it also brings attention to the challenges nurses face. We must acknowledge ongoing undervaluation of the profession and the toll this important work can take on nurses’ mental and physical health.
